When interviewed on CNN and asked if Scientology is a religion or cult, someone (whose name is forgettable, as I now demonstrate) said something to the effect: "It's not a cult. It's pretty old, at least fifty years." This may explain the fascination Scientology has claimed among a growing legion of folks with a "special" sense of history and time, of transience and transcendence. Soon there will be a Shroud of L. Ron Hubbard and sightings on mountain tops, toast, and concrete underpasses.
