CNN's Obsession: Is Ayman Dead?

I'm no fan of the morons better known as al-Qaeda. The way they live -- on the run, in caves, incognito, under porches -- is the perfect metaphor of their ideology: homeless, disconnected from tradition, incapable of settlement and civilization, attractive to a small cadre of people who likely have failed in everything else they've tried, crafters of articulations that appeal not to logic nor the intellect but to surface. They are makers of platitudes and bombs, self-congratulating gangsters.

So CIA-ordered strikes hit a village in Pakistan, a home or two or three that may have housed al-Qaeda's number two man, which means that possibly he was killed. And, by the way, two dozen died in the strike. Who were they? Stupid question because Ayman may have been there. Were they civilians? Were the children asleep, deep in children dreams? Another stupid question? Mothers gone too? Will they be remembered? Will Fox and CNN ever get around to ask about them?

Word just in: al-Zawahiri not among the dead. Dammit! Got to try again! Onward, Blitzer! Right? Ok, now wake up the two dozen dead. Get the kids ready for school. Put their limbs back on. Find their faces in the rubble. Hurry! You don't want them to be late.

Not to worry. We'll just bomb the next village we think al-Zawahiri is hiding in. No shortage of bombs in this military, no sir.
